Batteries — or more precisely, accumulators — are an essential part of most electric airsoft guns (AEGs). But it doesn’t stop there: certain HPA systems also require batteries to power their Fire Control Units (FCUs).

In today’s airsoft scene, Li-Ion batteries are gradually overtaking traditional LiPo packs. But why is that? Is a LiPo or Li-Ion battery better for your setup? Can your gun handle an 11.1V battery? And what exactly do terms like 2S, 3S, or "C-rate" mean?

We’ll break it all down in this category.

Li-Po Batteries for Airsoft Guns

Looking for a reliable airsoft LiPo battery? The most affordable Li-Po batteries start at around CZK 275. These compact packs are ideal for HPA airsoft setups using JST connectors and offer capacities around 300mAh. If you're using an AEG airsoft gun, you'll find high-discharge LiPo batteries with much higher capacities priced in the mid-range.

The price of a Li-Po battery depends on several factors: voltage (typically 7.4V to 11.1V), capacity (300mAh to 2,000mAh), discharge rate (25C to 160C — higher C-rates mean faster rate of fire), and the brand. For players looking to boost ROF (rate of fire), a high C-rate LiPo battery for AEG is a must

Li-Ion Batteries for AEG & HPA Airsoft

Li-Ion batteries for airsoft guns share the lithium-based chemistry of Li-Po packs but use a liquid electrolyte stored in cylindrical metal cells, as opposed to the gel-based construction of Li-Polys. This design slightly limits flexibility in shape and size — one of the few downsides of Li-Ion batteries.

That said, Li-Ion packs offer key advantages: higher energy density, no swelling over time, and greater longevity. Despite prices ranging from CZK 490 up to CZK 2,150, Li-Ion batteries are often worth it — delivering up to 3× the capacity at the same voltage when compared to a similarly priced LiPo.

If you're looking for a long-lasting airsoft battery for HPA or AEG, Li-Ion is a top-tier choice.

Li-Po vs. Li-Ion: Which Airsoft Battery Is Better?

Choosing between LiPo and Li-Ion airsoft batteries depends on your needs. LiPo batteries are available in many shapes and sizes (e.g., 18×12 mm to 43×21 mm), perfect for fitting into tight spaces or odd-shaped compartments.

Li-Ion batteries, however, maintain a uniform diameter (~20 mm), and their capacity scales with cell length. The most powerful Li-Ion airsoft batteries offer up to three times the capacity of Li-Po and are about 50% smaller in size for the same mAh rating. Even when price is considered, Li-Ion still provides roughly 20% more energy per crown.

Need something powerful and compact for a Crane stock or buffer tube? A 6000mAh Li-Ion battery for airsoft might be your best option.

Other Airsoft & Tactical Batteries

Other Batteries - Aside from main power sources for your replicas, airsoft gear often requires other types of batteries — mainly for accessories like red dots, scopes, lasers, and tactical flashlights. These include:

  • Standard batteries (AA, CR123A)
  • Button cells (CR2032, CR1632)
  • Specialty formats (9V)

Standard and 9V batteries can be either rechargeable or disposable, but button cells are always single-use. Be aware: different brands may use different battery types for similar airsoft accessories, so always check your product requirements.
