Magazines for airsoft eletric guns (AEG)

What Are Hi-Cap, Mid-Cap, Low-Cap, Spring-Fed, or Winding Mags?

There are three main types of magazines available for AEG airsoft replicas:

High-Capacity (Hi-Cap) – aka "Winders"

Hi-cap magazines use an internal system of gears and springs — like a clock mechanism — to feed BBs. You wind them up from the bottom using a wheel or string, and the internal mechanism pushes BBs from the storage chamber up into the gun during shooting.single wind typically allows for around 50 shots, so continuous rewinding is required during longer bursts.
Hi-caps are known for their large BB capacity, but they’re not very popular among serious players — with the exception of drum mags.

                    High-Capacity (Hi-Cap) – aka "Winders" (AK)

Pros:

  • Very high capacity — up to 600 BBs
  • Easy to fill without a speedloader

Cons:

  • Noisy (BBs rattle inside)
  • Needs constant rewinding
  • Can break if overwound
  • Can’t keep up with high ROF (rate-of-fire) builds

Mid-Capacity (Mid-Cap) – aka "Spring-Fed" or "Midcaps"

Mid-cap magazines are the most popular and reliable mag type. They require filling via a speedloader, and BBs are stacked in a straight channel with a spring-loaded follower pressing them into the hop-up chamber.
This is a simple and durable system, offering consistent feeding and realism. Capacity typically ranges from 80 to 150 BBs, most commonly around 100–125 BBs.

                 Mid-Capacity (Mid-Cap) – aka "Spring-Fed" or "Midcaps" (SR25)

Pros:

  • Reliable feeding, even in high-rate-of-fire setups
  • Quiet operation
  • Durable and realistic feel

Cons:

  • Requires a speedloader to fill
  • Lower capacity than hi-caps
  • Can cause "Mid-Cap Syndrome" with overly strong springs

What Is "Mid-Cap Syndrome"?

This occurs when the internal spring is too strong, pressing the BBs too tightly against the nozzle. This can prevent a proper air seal in the hop-up chamber. The result? Drastically reduced muzzle velocity during the first few shots when the mag is full. As BBs are shot out and pressure eases, velocity returns to normal.

Low capacity (Low-cap/Real-cap)

Low-caps are also spring-fed, but they offer realistic round counts, replicating the capacity of real steel magazines. These are mostly used in MilSim events, where realism and ammo conservation are part of the challenge.

                      Low capacity (Low-cap/Real-cap) (SR25)
Pros:

  • Very realistic gameplay
  • Quiet and consistent feeding
  • Great for MilSim immersion

Cons:

  • Extremely low capacity
  • Requires carrying multiple mags
  • Filling must be done with a speedloader

Their massive capacityup to 7000 BBs — makes them ideal for suppressive fire.
We stock electric mags for M249 (A&K, Classic Army), as well as Mk48, PKM, and RPK variants.
