Magnifiers for Airsoft

The Magnifier is an accessory to the collimator, allowing you to shoot at longer distances. The main feature of the magnifier is zooming. In other words, it is a classic magnifier, but designed to be mounted on a gun. Their magnification value is most often fixed, but there are also versions with a variable value. As with the magnification value, the methods of mounting the magnifier on weapons vary.

Magnifiers for Airsoft

Rifle shooters used to face a specific problem, namely shooting at different distances without having to acquire a rifle scope. In response to this demand, manufacturers have developed proximity modules that increase the range capabilities of collimators. In the early 2000s, improved magnification modules were introduced that allow shooters to quickly switch between magnified and unmagnified views without the need to mount and dismount optics.

What is a magnifier?

A magnifier, also known as a magnifier, has a simple purpose: to expand the capabilities of a collimator by providing magnification when needed. We add magnification to the collimator by placing a fore-end in front of the collimator and looking into the collimator through this "fore-end" the closer the targets are.
Sighting devices (collimators) are usually designed to quickly acquire targets at close to medium distances, usually within 100 yards for edged weapons. For airsoft, of course, it is much closer. The Magnifier is also mistakenly called a fore end.

What is a fore end?

A foregrip is a similar device to a Magnifier. Prefolds are night vision or thermal imaging devices that are installed in front of (sometimes behind) collimators or scopes, allowing you to use your existing scope/collimator even in darkness or fog.

The zoom module allows the shooter to zoom in on more distant targets, improving both accuracy and target identification. Most common magnification levels range from 3x to 5x, allowing shooters to more accurately engage targets at significantly longer distances than without the zoom. Magnifiers are particularly attractive because they can be mounted as a folding mechanism, allowing the shooter to use the collimator in both magnification and non-magnification modes by simply pressing a lever or tilting it to the side.

Is it a good magnifier for airsoft?

Just like edged weapon shooters, airsoft players can fully utilize the potential of the magnifier and collimator. Moreover, where else can one actively take advantage of the ability to shoot at short distances (CQB, for example), and also at longer distances (combat in the woods). The advantage of airsoft is that you can often buy a straight combo of collimator and magnifier in one kit, and at a much lower price than firearms kits. For example, we can introduce a collimator and magnifier set from Specna arms. Other manufacturers include Vector optics, WADSN, AIM-O, etc.

Moreover, a nicely fitted airsoft replica with various accessories and magnifier looks really good!

Installing the magnifier on the gun

Magnifiers are designed to work with a wide range of collimators. They are usually mounted behind the collimator itself on the same RIS rail. However, it is essential that the center of the magnifier is in the center of the collimator for proper operation.
Therefore, when selecting a magnifier, you should always go by your existing collimator.

So how do I choose the right magnifier in relation to my collimator? There are several options.

Orientation according to the height of your collimator

Just find out the height of your collimator and get a magnifier of the same height according to it. Any deviations can then be corrected by either lining up the collimator to the correct height or by adjusting the magnifier via the turrets, similar to the collimator.

Our tip:
Usually in the package, besides the magnifier itself, we also find raising mounts, to adjust the correct height of the magnifier to the collimator.

Testing directly on the gun

For us, the best solution is to install the magnifier directly on your gun with your collimator. And verify that everything works as it should. You can try this test at one of our branches! Alternatively, we will be happy to advise you what and how in person!

Buy a ready-made set

Some manufacturers sell the magnifier in a set with a collimator. In this case, you just clamp the collimator and magnifier onto the gun. Then all you have to do is shoot the whole set.

What can a zoom magnifier do?

The primary feature of a magnifier is, of course, its ability to magnify. This magnification usually ranges from 2x to 6x. The most common versions have a magnification of 3x, which provides a good balance between shooting at closer and more distant targets. But presets with adjustable zoom are no exception, just as we know from scopes.

Side-tilt mounting system

One of the most useful features of the magnifier is its quick switch between zoomed and unzoomed views. Most modern modules are equipped with a flip-to-side mounting system that allows shooters to flip the magnifier so that it doesn't get in the way when it's not needed. Most also attach to the Picatinny rail (RIS) on the rifle using a quick-disconnect (QD) mount for easy deployment and removal of the module.

Our tip:
The forends, if folded out of the collimator, can also be used on the rifle as a quick access scope.

Durability and construction

Quality brand magnifiers are designed to be as durable as the collimators themselves. They are usually shockproof, waterproof and fogproof, ensuring that they can withstand harsh conditions and rough handling. As an example of a truly quality brand, we can cite products from companies such as Vector optics or Victoptics. Manufacturers like WADSN and Specna Arms are more of an airsoft copy, functional but not as durable.

Adjustable diopters

This feature allows the shooter to fine-tune the magnifier's focus to match the needs of their eyesight, ensuring clarity when tracking distant targets. Adjusting the focus is usually as easy as rotating the eyepiece while looking through, just like a rifle scope.

Types of magnifiers

Magnifiers are available in a variety of configurations, and each type offers its own advantages depending on the intended use.

Fixed zoom

These magnifiers offer a fixed level of magnification, usually around 3x or 5x. They are simple, robust and reliable, ideal for situations requiring constant magnification without the hassle of adjusting.

Flip-to-side magnifiers

The flip-to-mount version has become one of the most popular and widely used versions of the magnifier.
The most common and popular type of magnifier is called flip-to-side, which can be simply flipped off the axis of the collimator when not needed and flipped back on again when the situation changes.
This solution allows shooters to quickly switch between shooting with and without magnification without having to remove the module completely.

Variable magnifiers

Variable magnifiers allow users to adjust the magnification level, typically between 1x and 6x. They are ideal for shooters who want to hit targets at different distances without having to change optics.
